Four years ago, I purchased my first bluetooth headset, thinking it’s the future. The problem with being on the cutting edge of technology is sometimes you get ostracized. Granted, bluetooth headsets have the most annoying and unconventional user interface design (why blink annoyingly at everyone else and the user can’t see it?!), wearing one of these was not a statement of “coolness.”
On one occasion, as I was preparing to leave a meeting, I slipped my bluetooth headset on and two of my colleagues teased me of being borg. I was slightly embarrassed and after that, I only put the headset on after I got in my car.
At long last, with the new law requiring hands-free devices for talking while driving, I see people with bluetooth headsets everywhere. Now, we are all borg—borg with annoying blue blinking lights.

Haha! Funny post. Thankfully some of the newer ones don’t have the blinking lights. I’ll admit, I shake my head when I see guys shopping at Fred Meyer with the cell phone belt clip and the headset on the ear while they’re not on a call. I get a sense that they think it’s pretty cool… Yikes!
I got one a while back because I’d always talk to Tovah on the phone to stay awake while driving home from work.
Yes, they male look Borg-ish but hey, if it works it works. Then again, fanny packs are extremely useful and no one uses those…
Yup, we got Jenni one so that she can talk on the phone while using both hands for the kids. The Jawbones are pretty cool except some minor usability issues as well.
Fanny packs are useful here and there, but it definitely makes you feel like you have a bigger gut than you really do.
