We did it. We made it through 22 epic movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with the kids. Ever since the first Avengers movie in 2012, I impatiently waited for the right age to share them and hold back all the spoilers. It’s been a long, long time.
When we originally scheduled how we’ll traverse the three phases, we didn’t imagine the kids would’ve finished them all within two years. But then COVID-19 happened. With all the extra time indoors, they got an accelerated path through Harry Potter and the MCU.
The kids were 8, 10, and 12 when we watched Iron Man. All of the MCU movies are PG-13 and some skew further along that rating. Using Jenni’s movie editing skills, we edited each movie to remove language and subject matter that wasn’t appropriate for their age and our family’s values.
Yeah, twenty-two movies are a lot of time spent editing. Jenni is the real super hero. She went through each movie at least twice and as she went through the movies herself, she got very familiar with the lore and got more sophisticated with the editing.
The kids really connected with the more comedic film. I’d say their favorites were Spider-Man, Ant-Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy.
