We’re coming up to three years at Lovegood and we’ve been privileged to see student performers grow with each performance. For Matilda, several lead roles were Jenni’s “show kids” and we loved their chance to showcase their skills and growth.
Favorite Songs
I had heard three of the songs from this musical before knowing the story. At a Lovegood Open Mic night, one of the regular performers sang Quiet and My House. Violet sang When I Grow Up as part of a vocal class at Lovegood.
I remember at the time that they were touching songs, even without the story context.
Now that I know the story, the songs resonate more emotionally. Perhaps it’s because my oldest daughter graduated high school, but when Matilda and Magnus harmonize in song, it’s a beautifully comforting to be there for each other.
When I recorded the final show, the entire sound booth shouted along to the chorus for “Telly”. And I’m amused that there’s a song with the same name as my son.
