Last year’s BridgeTown experience is a hard one to beat. Not to say that this year was plain or boring, but going in to BridgeTown 2006, I knew I could not expect a repeat of last year’s magic.
The company I work for celebrated its 25th anniversary this year. As part of that celebration, the whole company was invited to Sunriver, Oregon for a weekend of relaxing and socializing, all paid for by the company. Jenni and I received a luxurious second floor room at the Sunriver Resort with a vaulted ceiling, a cozy king-sized bed, and a porch with two rocking chairs. We didn’t stay in the room much since we looked forward to playing in the pools and hot tubs.
Jenni and I were heading home from the Asian food store, Uwajimaya, and as we got off highway 217, we stopped behind a vehicle with a license plate “DRGNS.”
“Dragons,” I stated.
“Or Dr. Guns,” Jennilyn added. We turned and smiled at each other.
I pointed to myself, “Geek,” and to her, “Country girl.”
We laughed and she pointed out that the vehicle was a truck. I crinkled my nose at her and made our turn home.
Jenni, Jack, and I visited Los Angeles this last weekend for my cousin’s wedding. Kevin, Jack, and I spent a good portion growing up learning multiplication from our grandpa, talking about who’s getting which Transformer robot, and blowing crap up with firecrackers that we got from our dentist. He moved away from Oregon before I started middle school, but our mischievous adventures of many years will always be a part of me. It was a huge blessing to be a part of a major milestone in his life.
What an interesting weekend it was:
Well, the weekend has turned into a week. The bug we got will go away by itself eventually, and David is feeling well enough to go back to work now. While I’m not too happy about the discomfort of being sick, it has led me to a new doctor (covered by my insurance!) who seems genuinely interested in my case, and may be able to help me with my overall mysterious ailments. I was tempted to be afraid to hope. I still feel a whole mixture of emotions, yet I realize fear paralizes, and hope is what keeps things moving. So I press on; thankful the Lord is carrying me when I’m weak, thankful for my wonderful husband who loves me through it all, and so grateful for my family and friends who pray for me and encourage me. I love you all.
I remember seeing this dress from Jennilyn’s senior portraits where she leaned on a tree with her blue eyes looking intently into the lens. She chose the dress because it was her grandmother’s and she wanted to preserve it in a photograph.
As I took photos of Jennilyn in her grandmother’s dress, I was waiting for my camera’s buffer to emptywhen I looked up and saw her sweep her hand across the grass. It reminded me of simple mannerisms that I’ve enjoyed about Jennilyn—that, and she’s full of grace.
Jenni and I were asked to do a little west coast swing dance demo at a friend’s retirement dance party. We picked out a song today and practiced a little before the improv dance. We took my company camera, the Canon SD300, and recorded a short clip of one of our practice dances.
We visited Cannon Beach to watch the annual sand castle contest. There were many very amusing creations, and a few that were fantastic. Of the twenty constructed, only a few were actual sand castles. Here are few that left us in awe or tickled our funny bone.
What lies at the bottom of the ocean twitching? Can you guess? A nervous wreck! Arrr! Want another one? Okay, how much does it cost for a pirate to get his ears pierced? A buccaneer! Arrr har har! Okay, okay, I know you want one more. So, when I was a wee young lass, I wanted to see a pirate movie, but me mum and dad wouldn’t let me because it was rated ARRRRR! No groaning, now. I heard that.
What’s with the pirate jokes? Let’s say I was inspired by visiting the pirate ships at the Portland Rose Festival yesterday.
We just moved into our new one-room place at Oakview Village. When I first looked at it, I liked it. I didn’t think we’d get it though, because it was bigger than the other one-room apartments I’d seen, and too expensive. But one morning, I prayed that God would show us where to go, and I trusted Him to do so as I drove around looking at different places. By late afternoon, I was ready to quit when I got a phone call from Oakview. The manager asked me if I would reconsider living at Oakview if she lowered the price to what we were hoping for! Thanks, Lord!
