That’s right! I’m pregnant! About 10 weeks. Due in the end of June. And NO, we’re not going to find out what sex this baby is either until he or she is born. In the words of Wesley from The Princess Bride, “Get used to disappointment.”
Five Years at Vernier
My boss and I couldn’t believe it. Five years has passed since I first walked into the Vernier building. I arrived early because I wanted to make a good impression, only to meet my boss’ boss since my boss hadn’t arrived yet.
I’ve been incredibly blessed to have been part of a company as wonderful as Vernier. God strategically placed me there for He knew my needs—and my future family needs—when I was hired.
Prince of Persia
I remember standing at a Radio Shack and admired a simple-looking fellow in a dungeon on a computer monitor. I pushed a few buttons on the keyboard and got the man to move about, and eventually jump.
I was amazed at the fluid movement animation that even had inertia. I made my way through the dungeon and came across another man, who came at me with a sword. The other man proceeded to kill my avatar and I figured out that I needed a sword for my character—who turned out to be a prince.
Politics
Two weeks ago I was discussing with David about why politics is such a touchy subject. He mentioned something I had known but hadn’t put my finger on before: people are so passionate about politics because it reflects their values, their world view – something very near and dear to them.
When I look at it from that angle, it makes sense why many people who share the same faith in Jesus Christ, share similar views on politics. What was interesting about this most recent election is how Christians seemed to be on both sides of the fence; I didn’t know who to vote for until the last remaining week or days.
Have a Super Halloween
Here are our loosely-themed superhero pumpkins for this year: Iron Man, Hulk (but could be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle without the head sash), the Bat Signal, and a lil’ Baby with a binky 😉
Ninja Cat
Kadie’s Smart Car
Happy Birthday Kadie from Daddy
Looking back at my first year with you, all I can think of is how thankful I am to have you as a daughter. You are so sweet, beautiful, and funny—just like your mother.
Bridge Town Swing 2008
I have to give props to all the volunteers who pulled the event together in a few short months. Even with a solid foundation and several experienced staff members, Bridge Town Swing (BTS) had some big internal changes this year, but I believe the new direction will be good for the event and the Portland Swing Dance Club.
Jenni and I had planned to go to BTS for Saturday afternoon, after Gerry and Amy’s wedding in Oregon City. We couldn’t justify the cost of attending the event in full, but since we were in the area for the wedding, visiting our dance friends afterward was a no-brainer.
On the Sunday before BTS, Greg Krolicki, the new event director, called Jennilyn and offered complimentary guest passes for my work on the Portland Swing Dance Club web site—in particular, the BTS section. It was a very generous of him.
Putting My Face in Facebook
After holding out from joining yet another social network, I finally signed up on Facebook, and was amazed at the automation Facebook does to connect people. It does a pretty scary good job at matching me to people I actually know in real life.
