My dad has volunteered at the Lan Su Chinese Garden for many years during his retirement. He loves sharing Chinese art with visitors in the form of calligraphy, painting, and music.
Happy 15th Birthday Kadie!
As Jack continued to train for a marathon, we invited Jake to ride along behind him as we made a goat-shaped loop around East Portland.
My Second Sabbatical
After my first sabbatical, Vernier changed the benefit so that employees receive a four-week sabbatical after seven years of employment. The timing was advantageous since my second sabbatical came sooner than the first, which came after ten years.
I was eligible for my second sabbatical last year, but since we were navigating a global pandemic, I deferred it for a year. I’m still amazed at how fast time went by from my first sabbatical that I arrived at my second sabbatical; and now, at the end of my second sabbatical.
So, what did I do for six weeks?
Biking Banks-Vernonia Trail with Jake
Visiting Sand Island with the Dunn Family
David and Charlene’s First Visit to OMSI
I didn’t realize that David and Charlene had never visited OMSI before. It’s almost a crime since Charlene had come up to Portland several times before.
I’m grateful for my workplace to offer corporate passes so I can easily give out of town guests a complete experience at OMSI.
I took David and Charlene, and their friends Albert and Jenny, through the Leonardo da Vinci exhibit, James Cameron’s Deep Sea Challenge exhibit, and the standard exhibits in the turbine hall. We got to see James Cameron’s short film about his trip down the Mariana Trench too.
Canada and Olympic National Park
For our summer 2022 road trip, we chose to visit Vancouver B.C., Victoria B.C., and explore Washington’s Olympic National Park. It was a great mix of city and country locations for indoor and outdoor adventures.
Bridge Pedal with Bruce and Bubbles
After watching last year’s Bridge Pedal video I created, Bruce showed interest in joining in. He’s my only child interested in biking and enjoys a good challenge.
While I was climbing the Fremont Bridge last year, I saw someone’s bike with a machine releasing bubbles into the air. It inspired me to try it myself. I purchased a USB-powered bubble machine recommended and received many thanks and gleeful cheers.
