Godspeed Canon A80

I know you’re not supposed to get attached to material things because, in the end, you can’t take it with you, but there’s one item that has a lot of sentimental value to me that I believe it’s worth preserving its memory on our blog.

Star Wars @ OMSI: The Hills Strike Back

Seeing the Star Wars exhibit once wasn’t enough for me. I wanted to share it with with my family too, so we all gathered there on the Friday morning before Christmas. The crowds and traffic were a challenge, but we took the place by storm.

My youngest brother, Rex, flew in from NY the night before, so the first thing I did was hug him and make the whole family pose for a picture together. The rest of the day can told through the photos.

Pumpkin Carving Party

Family Pumpkin Carving Party 2006David and I went to Po Po’s house with my mom, dad, and brother-in-law to carve pumpkins. It was lots of fun sitting out on the porch, designing and crafting our masterpieces. Po Po said we all should open an art studio. I don’t know about that, but it was neat to see what each person came up with.

A Day at the Beach

Beach with Tracy

Tracy took me to the beach for my birthday! One thing or another kept coming up so that we had to delay our trip til September… but what a perfect day for it! I never knew about the beautiful beaches just south of Cannon Beach until our adventures that day. Thank you, Tracy, for a wonderful day with a wonderful friend!

Getting the Blues

What an interesting weekend it was:

  • Thursday, 10:00 P.M. – David not feeling well. Jenni entertains thoughts of him getting to stay home with her on Friday because of being a little sick.
  • Friday, 12:00 A.M. – David not feeling well, and not sleeping. Jenni sleeping.
  • 4:00 A.M. – Jenni awakes to David vomiting. Jenni cleans bathroom, and emails David’s boss. Not much sleep.
  • 8:00 A.M. – Workers noisily tear the back porch off our apartment for later reconstructing.
  • 12:00 P.M. – Jenni gets up, and David moves to couch. Jenni is sorry for wishing David to be sick. Calls nurse.
  • 2:00 P.M. – Go to Immediate Care Clinic. David get’s fluid put back in his body through IV.
  • 5:30 P.M. – Leave doctor’s. Get 7up, Jello, other groceries, and movies.
  • 7:00 P.M. – Get David back onto the couch. Watch The Emperor’s New Groove. Doctor calls. David may be sick for 1 to 2 weeks. Need to go to doctor on Monday.
  • Saturday, 2:00 A.M. – David not doing well. Calling nurse to see if need a trip to ER.
  • 12:00 P.M. – Get out of bed. Watch Fun With Dick And Jane. Laugh. David goes back to bed. Jenni goes to Costco, Fred Meyer, does laundry, disinfects kitchen and bathroom, cooks.
  • 7:00 P.M. – Watch Rocky. David goes back to bed.
  • Sunday, 11:00 A.M. – Uh oh. Now Jenni’s sick.
  • Monday – Doctor too busy to see us. Watch more movies.
  • Tuesday, 11:00 A.M. – David takes Jenni to Immediate Care for IV fluids. Same receptionist shakes her head when she sees us again.
  • Wednesday – See doctor.

Well, the weekend has turned into a week. The bug we got will go away by itself eventually, and David is feeling well enough to go back to work now. While I’m not too happy about the discomfort of being sick, it has led me to a new doctor (covered by my insurance!) who seems genuinely interested in my case, and may be able to help me with my overall mysterious ailments. I was tempted to be afraid to hope. I still feel a whole mixture of emotions, yet I realize fear paralizes, and hope is what keeps things moving. So I press on; thankful the Lord is carrying me when I’m weak, thankful for my wonderful husband who loves me through it all, and so grateful for my family and friends who pray for me and encourage me. I love you all.

Pirates!

Captain BonesWhat lies at the bottom of the ocean twitching? Can you guess? A nervous wreck! Arrr! Want another one? Okay, how much does it cost for a pirate to get his ears pierced? A buccaneer! Arrr har har! Okay, okay, I know you want one more. So, when I was a wee young lass, I wanted to see a pirate movie, but me mum and dad wouldn’t let me because it was rated ARRRRR! No groaning, now. I heard that.

What’s with the pirate jokes? Let’s say I was inspired by visiting the pirate ships at the Portland Rose Festival yesterday.

Ain’t It Quaint?

We just moved into our new one-room place at Oakview Village. When I first looked at it, I liked it. I didn’t think we’d get it though, because it was bigger than the other one-room apartments I’d seen, and too expensive. But one morning, I prayed that God would show us where to go, and I trusted Him to do so as I drove around looking at different places. By late afternoon, I was ready to quit when I got a phone call from Oakview. The manager asked me if I would reconsider living at Oakview if she lowered the price to what we were hoping for! Thanks, Lord!

Ellensburg, WA

Ellensburg is a special place to me. It was where I was born and where I went to college for a few years. Since meeting David, I’ve visited his college in Corvallis several times for OSU’s Ballroom dances. So last weekend, I was excited to get to share my college stomping grounds of Central Washington University with him.

Stonehenge near I-90 and Highway 14We took off Friday afternoon and finally made it out of Portland an hour later. Gotta love traffic! We headed east and made a quick photo stop at the Stonehenge replica just north of the Columbia River Gorge, south of Goldendale. We passed by Mt. Adams, which holds fun and not-so-fun memories of back pack trips with my family. As we finished our approximate 4 hour trip, I had already visited all the sites we would see in my mind, and revisited lots of memories of friends and happenings in the little windy town of Ellensburg.

Random Stuff

David and I have been busy with the Portland Swing Dance Club. David has been working on a new membership database system for the club, as well as redesigning the club website, and planning board meeting agendas, etc., etc., etc. Lots to do! I’ve been doing the few secretary duties, as well as coordinating all the volunteers to run the dances, and the bigger job, our workshop weekend we put on a couple weeks ago. All is going well. We have such a great community of volunteers!

It All Started On Monday

What a fantastic week it’s been! Backing up to a couple of Fridays ago, it was fun seeing The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe with Ullas and Rex. We stood in line to get in on opening night…oooo. It was a cute movie. The animals were really neat looking.
