100 Days Old

Rumor has it that in China it’s special for a baby to reach 100 days old. So in honor of that, I have created a video of Kadence’s 1st month. I wanted to do all three months, but here’s the 1st with more to follow.

With The Birth Of A Child, A Mother Is Born

All my life I’ve dreamed of becoming a wife and mother. I confess that when I got out of high school, all I really wanted to do was get married and have a family. But there were no prospects, and I didn’t want to sit around and wait for who knows how long till that happened. So off to college I went and I discovered life after high school was good after all.

You’ll Know When We Know

Well, what can I say? Baby is still happy and cozy inside me. And so I wait. It used to be that you weren’t considered overdue until after week 42. But these days, it seems people are very concerned when just a few days over my ESTIMATED due date have passed.

41 weeks pregnant

I am grateful for all the people excited for us, and for their calls to check on me. It’s been nice getting all this attention, really. But I’m starting to imagine some odd ball responses to the repeated questions: “Is the baby out yet?” and “What does the doctor say?” To the first, Rachel suggested I say, “My midwife is out of town till next month and so I’m holding out.” To the question “What does the doctor/midwife say?”, I might answer, “She says my blood pressure is really good! 106 over 70.” Or “My urine pH is normal. What else would you like to know?” Or “How was your last doctor visit? What did they say?” Hee hee. Okay, I’m getting a little obnoxious.

Well, I started writing this post two days ago, and now I’m feeling way more anti-social. If you are wondering if you’ve missed a call or a blog post about our baby, you haven’t. I’ve quit answering my phone at this point to keep from explaining the same things over and over again. I’ve been feeling pressured and discouraged, and that kind of stress can impede labor. So, with this blog post, I’m going to let it all go and enjoy a relaxing day with David, and trust that God knows the birth date of our baby, and every detail about him or her as the loving Creator He is.

Positive Sides of Pregnancy

I found the following pregnancy quote in a book, “Crib Notes,” that Jake and Linda gave me:

“If you want to know the feeling [of labor pain], just take your bottom lip and pull it over your head.”

Pregnancy Stories

Trudy once asked me to recap my pregnancy month by month. Rather than do that, I think I’ll hit some of the highlights I wish to remember.

Is it a Boy or Girl?

Beach ball bellySince we are waiting to find out if we’re having a boy or girl, everyone asks what we think it will be. I go back and forth on this one. According to the Ancient Chinese Birth Gender Predictor, we will be having a girl. But my in-laws, who are Chinese, say I will be having a boy. In fact, most everyone I meet, including strangers, say I’m having a boy.

What Am I Getting Myself Into?

Having a sense of humorAfter getting hooked on reading a lady named Dawn’s blog all day yesterday, I am inspired to rethink about my romantic notions of children. Of course, my excitement for our baby is authentically painted with love and happiness, but reading story after hilarious story about this woman’s life with her six children has made me remember that parenthood will be more than just cuddling a cute baby. Much more. Especially the more critters one has.

Well, I am gearing up for the adventure, and I’m so glad we are starting out with just one. Hopefully by the 2nd and maybe 3rd child, we will have learned from our mistakes with the 1st one (poor kid). But Dawn also inspires me to keep a sense of humor about life. I hope she will be able to finish her book. Gotta get my hands on a copy! I enjoy her perspective on the chaos that comes with child rearing. If you’re up for a laugh, check out her blog. I particularly enjoyed the entry about butt paste (Aug 28), and also her resignation letter to her husband (Aug 7). Also, her entries on July 10th (about pineapple) and July 2nd (things she’s learned)! I had to run to the bathroom to keep from peeing my pants!

Oregon Zoo 2007

Here’s another movie of Rachel’s boys and our trip to the Oregon Zoo. We originally planned to hit the Children’s Museum, but the nice lady at the admission desk warned me that it’s really meant for toddlers through 7 year olds. Yikes. Good to know (Luke, Jesse, and Stephen are ages 8-11). So we walked across the parking lot and spent a fun afternoon at the zoo instead.
